Public Relations Strategy
![]() |
Public relations is the second most widely-used marketing tool (the first is a Web site). It’s how you tell the world about your news and accomplishments.
Some people will tell you that marketing is about control and PR is about chaos. It’s a cute line, but it’s wrong. All forms of branding and messaging are about influence – you can’t control what your audience says and communication isn’t really chaotic unless you let it be. |
| You need a strategy to make sure you’re influencing the audience you want to the way you want to. Let’s talk about how to make that happen.
In many larger companies there’s a disconnect between PR and marketing – largely for political reasons. Establishing close ties between those two organizations is of paramount importance and is do-able if you understand how the politics came to be. I’ve worked with enough large companies to understand the politics and when they’re important and when they’re an obstacle. I can help you put together a plan to improve the relationship and avoid a disconnect in your messaging and your brand. Smaller companies and start-ups tend to invest in PR without a thought towards marketing. But then who determines what you sound like when you’re quoted, whether your boilerplate has the same feel as your products, your site and your customer service agents? Without a marketing plan, PR isn’t as effective as it needs to be and you end up wasting your money. In order to maximize the utility of your PR budget, you need to get a marketing plan in place first, then plan out your announcements and how to create the proper buzz in the proper places. Let’s talk about how a public relations strategy can work for you. |
